Rating: - What are the others complaining about?? By L. Lucrezi (Pennsylvania) I have had this product for a couple of years and I have never had any of the problems the others are talking about. As far as noisy, the only time I hear anything is when it rewinds VHS tapes.
A friend of mine has recently asked me if I had a machine which could copy VHS to DVD, and I told her yes, and that I\'d check it out. we have used Sony DVD-R discs, 4.7 GB/ 1-16x discs, they work great. You have to make sure when you are trying to copy onto a DVD, that they are compatible with the machine, this machine is a DVD-R, DO NOT USE DVD+R discs, they will not work. You have got to read the manual and you too can recopy VHS to DVD\'s as easily as I have. and don\'t forget to finalize the disc when done, this apparently is what allows you to view the disc on other machines.
I\'m happy with my player/recorder, WHAT ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT!!!! Rating: - RECORD? NOT! BARGAIN? NOT! By Carolyn Anderson (Florence, MS) I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH TRYING TO RECORD ON THIS MACHINE. I FINALLY GAVE UP AND WAS JUST USING IT TO PLAY DVDS AND VCR TAPES. WELL GUESS WHAT, I USED IT ON 09/14/09 WITH NO PROBLEMS BUT ON 09/16/09 WHEN I TRIED TO USE IT AGAIN IT WAS \'DEAD IN THE WATER\'. FOR NO APPARENT REASON THAT I CAN SEE THERE IS NO POWER TO THE UNIT. THE DISPLAY IS DEAD AND IT WILL NOT TURN ON. THE POWER CORD DOES NOT HAVE ANY BREAKS IN IT AND I HAVE TRIED PLUGGING IT INTO ANOTHER OUTLET. I HAVE NOT MOVED IT OUT OR AROUND IN MY CABINET SINCE I SET IT UP 2 YEARS AGO. I CHECKED THE PLUG AND OUTLET TO SEE IF MAYBE THERE WERE MARKS FROM WHERE IT MIGHT HAVE SHORT-CIRCUITED. IT LOOKS THE SAME AS ALWAYS. GUESS IT\'S WHAT I GET FOR BUYING SOMETHING OFF OF WAL-MARTS CLEARANCE ISLE, EVEN THOUGH I PAYED $132.00 FOR IT. IT FEELS LIKE A RIP-OFF ESPECIALLY SINCE I ALREADY HAD A DVD AND SEPERATE VCR PLAYER. I ONLY BOUGHT IT TO RECORD. Rating: - Not the greatest copier out there, but ok... By ChibiNeko (Whereever I go, here I am.) I refrained from commenting on this until about a year of usage had past. While this wasn\'t bad for the price I paid (around $80 or so) it just kinda left me with a bad taste in my mouth.
The good part is that for the price I paid, I am getting my money\'s worth out of it. It copied my home movies to DVD fine enough, but there\'s no way to get a DVD copied onto a VHS. (I tried for a friend of mine who wanted a VHS copy for a family member who didn\'t have DVD.) The set plays just about every DVD I\'ve put into it & it\'s very handy for watching the multiple VHS tapes that I still have lingering about the house.
The bad thing about the copying process is that it\'s a pain in the butt to get the button mashing down. It\'s been about half a year since I\'ve copied anything & I have to admit... I don\'t even remember the button combination anymore. The unit is also very noisy- I\'ve taken to unplugging it because at random times the unit seems to start up & start \"whirring\" as if it was playing or loading up a DVD. (I\'ve heard these things wear out fast, so this is probably the case.) I\'ve never owned a DVD player that would make those noises before.
Ultimately, I was dissapointed with this unit. Looking back, I kinda wish that I\'d saved up a little more & gotten a more quality unit. If not for my unplugging it occasionally, I get the impression that the unit would have worn down by now. As a cheap-ish alternative to more expensive units, it\'s ok enough but most users will feel sorta gypped. Rating: - DO NOT BUY, JUNK By Jay Adamek (WI) I bought one of these units in Sept 2006 and there is no discs available for them as they need a 4x only speed which is not available. I called EMERSON ELECTRONICS 3 times and finally got a reply that they won;t record on dvd\'s that are rated 16x which all dvd blanks can today ,even if they say 8x. FORGET ABOUT EMERSON. Trust me, I am out $250.00
